About this Interview
At the time of her Zoom interview with AAST 3151/HIST 3672 student, Kawthar Mousa, on March 3rd, 2022, Rose Wellman was serving as an assistant professor at the University of Michgan-Dearborn and had just published her first book, Feeding Iran: Shi’i Families and the Making of the Islamic Republic (University of California Press, 2021). She talks about her training and field work in Iran and all the ways that informed her research and career. Dr. Wellman addresses navigating cultural differences in field research and the challenges of fitting-in while becoming immersed in Iranian culture. The interview also covers her emerging focus on the Iraqi Shi’a community in Dearborn.
